Description

There are earrings that carry a whole cosmology on their wire. The Navaratna tradition holds that nine gemstones, each presiding over a celestial body, together draw fortune and balance into the life of the wearer. Here, that ancient schema is rendered in sterling silver, the nine stones set within an oval frame that measures approximately 3.43 cm in height and 1.27 cm in width. The silhouette is clean and pendant-like, the dangle proportion considered rather than exaggerated. Sterling silver, rather than gilded base metal, gives this piece a cooler, more contemporary luminosity while honouring the integrity the Navaratna composition demands. The nine stones, typically ruby, pearl, coral, emerald, yellow sapphire, diamond substitute, blue sapphire, hessonite and cat's eye, are arranged according to classical diktat, not decorative whim.
