Description

There are necklaces that carry the colour of the earth itself, and this is one of them. Set in sterling silver, this piece draws its palette from three ancient stones: the sky-blue of turquoise, the warm terracotta of coral, and the deep midnight of lapis lazuli. The central composition is studded with turquoise and coral cabochons held in silver bezels, while fine threads of coral, turquoise and lapis are woven into the neckline, layering texture against the cool lustre of the metal. The tradition here belongs to the tribal and folk jewellery vocabulary of Rajasthan and the Himalayan borderlands, where silversmiths have long used these stones not merely for beauty but for meaning. At twenty-seven grams, the piece has genuine presence without heaviness, the silver work restrained enough to let the stones carry the conversation. Wear it against a cream or ivory kurta in chanderi or cotton, where the turquoise reads as a flash of mid-afternoon sky. For evening, it sits with equal ease on a silk blouse beneath a printed Kalamkari or Bagru sari, the coral warming the entire combination. The necklace measures 17.8 inches (approximately 45 centimetres) in length and fits most necklines as a single strand at collarbone height. Sterling silver develops a gentle patina with wear; a soft cloth restores its brightness. One size, no adjustment required.
