Description
A choker that carries the weight of a royal banquet on its throat. Rooted in the Kundan tradition that flourished across the ateliers of Jaipur, this navratna choker is built on a brass silver alloy base lacquered beneath each foiled setting to hold the stones steady and lend the piece its characteristic depth. Nine sacred gems, one for each celestial body of the Navagraha, are set flush within Kundan borders of refined foiled glass in the colours prescribed by tradition: the ruby-red of the sun, the pearl-white of the moon, and seven companions besides. From the lower edge, multicolour stone drops fall in a trembling fringe, approximately eleven and a half centimetres wide and nearly twelve centimetres in height when the earrings, at roughly five and a half by three and a half centimetres, are held beside it. The full set weighs two hundred and fifty-five grams, a presence you feel rather than forget. Wear this choker over a heavily embroidered Benarasi or Kanjivaram silk for a wedding reception, where its breadth fills the neckline without competing with embroidery. For a festive mehendi, pair it against raw silk or chanderi in a single neutral tone, letting the stone drops carry all the colour. The necklace closes with an adjustable dori rather than a clasp, sitting at four and a half inches in length and nine inches across, making it adaptable to most necklines. The lacquered underside protects the metal and holds every stone firmly in daily wear.
