Description

Nandi stands quietly at the threshold between the sacred and the everyday. Cast in warm, honey-toned brass, this lapel pin renders the sacred bull of Shaivite tradition in confident, unhurried relief. Nandi, the gatekeeper of Kailash and the eternal devotee, has long appeared in South Indian temple sculpture and in the votive metalwork of Tamil Nadu's craftsmen, particularly around the Nagercoil tradition where divine animal forms are rendered with reverent economy. Here, that sensibility is distilled into a wearable object: a single figure, upright and composed, given weight and character through the natural warmth of brass rather than plating or lacquer. The pin measures approximately eight centimetres in height and just under two and a half centimetres in width, and at nine grams it carries a pleasing, considered heft without burden. Wear it pinned to the lapel of a raw silk kurta at a Shivaratri gathering, where it reads as devotional rather than decorative. Equally, it translates beautifully against a linen blazer at a heritage craft fair or a cultural evening, offering a quiet gesture of faith and aesthetic intention to a discerning audience. Free size by nature, the standard brooch pin fastening sits flush at the back and secures reliably through most light fabrics. Brass, true to its character, will deepen and mellow with time, acquiring a patina that only confirms its authenticity. A small piece that carries an old story without needing to announce it.
