Description

Worn at the wrist, a whole cosmology of colour. The Naga peoples of India's north-east have long encoded identity, rank and belief into beadwork, and this bracelet carries that grammar faithfully forward. Brown and blue beads, each one threaded with deliberate rhythm, build a band that is at once graphic and deeply personal. The palette is not decorative whimsy: in Naga tradition, earthy ochres and deep indigos speak to the forest, the sky and the ceremonies that mark a life. At one and a half inches tall (approximately 3.8 cm) and six and a half inches in length (approximately 16.5 cm), the bracelet has real presence on the wrist, its 28.5 grams settling with a satisfying, grounded weight. The finish is honest and unadorned, the beads sitting close together so the pattern reads cleanly from any distance. Wear it against a cream or ivory handloom kurta at a craft fair or gallery opening, where it will hold its own without explanation. Equally, slide it over the cuff of a plain white shirt for a weekend that calls for something quietly considered rather than obvious. The free-size construction, held with a simple closure, accommodates most adult wrists and requires no resizing. The beaded body is robust enough for regular wear, though keeping it away from prolonged moisture will protect the threads and preserve the integrity of its colour for years to come.
