Description

There is something unhurried about a jhumka that swirls. The multicolour swirl motif on these jhumka danglers belongs to a long tradition of painted and enamelled copper ornaments, where colour is not applied as afterthought but built into the design's very logic. The base is copper, worked into a classic jhumka bell and paired with a slender dangler drop below, the whole surface finished in gold plating that lends warmth without heaviness. Swirling arcs of colour move across the dome in the manner of meenakari work, that ancient discipline of fusing pigment and metal practised with particular devotion in Jaipur's old city ateliers. Each curve of the swirl is intentional, giving the piece a sense of motion even at rest. At 2.5 inches height (approximately 6.4 cm) by 0.8 inches width (approximately 2 cm) and weighing 19 grams, these earrings have presence without strain. Wear them with a hand-block-printed cotton kurta in the afternoon, where the multicolour palette echoes natural vegetable dyes, or bring them to a festive gathering alongside a silk chanderi salwar set, letting the gold plating catch the light of the evening. The swirl and the jhumka silhouette carry equal ease in both registers. The copper construction keeps the earrings light enough for extended wear, and the free-size hook fitting suits most ears comfortably. The gold-plated finish asks for gentle care, away from water and perfume, to preserve its warmth across many seasons.
