Description

There is a particular joy that lives inside sound, the way a row of tiny bells can turn a simple movement into something ceremonial. This multicolour necklace is built around ghungroos, the small spherical bells long associated with classical dance and festive adornment across Rajasthan and Gujarat. Here they are strung in deliberate succession along a white metal base, their hollow bodies catching light with an understated silvery gleam. Between and above them, blocks and drops of colour, likely resin or dyed beads in the warm tones visible in the piece, bring a folk sensibility that recalls the craft vocabulary of Jaipur's street bazaars and the vibrant costume traditions of rural melas. The white metal finish, cool and unpretentious, keeps the palette grounded rather than gaudy. At approximately 17 inches in length (43 cm) and a substantial 58.9 grams, the necklace has genuine presence without feeling architectural. Pair it over a mirror-work blouse and a full cotton skirt for a festive afternoon gathering, or layer it against the neckline of a plain white kurta to let the colour and sound do all the talking at a casual cultural evening. The free-size fit means it sits comfortably at the collarbone on most builds. White metal resists the tarnishing anxieties that come with plated pieces, and the ghungroos themselves are unlikely to snag on fabric, making this as practical for a long afternoon as it is spirited.
