Description

There are necklaces that arrive like a folk song, unhurried and full of colour. This piece belongs to a long tradition of wooden jewellery-making practised across craft clusters in Rajasthan, Bengal and parts of the South, where artisans shape, lacquer and hand-paint wood into forms that rival metal in their warmth. The necklace is built from carved and finished wooden components, each piece sealed and painted in the multicolour palette the tradition demands: earthy ochres, deep reds, forest greens and accents of ivory or black that are layered rather than applied flatly. The motifs read as geometric and floral at once, recalling the vocabulary of tribal and folk ornament. At roughly 82 grams, the necklace sits with a pleasing weight that feels substantial without straining the neck. The long silhouette, 32 inches (approximately 81 centimetres), allows it to fall well below the collarbone in a continuous, unbroken sweep. Wear it over a cotton or linen kurta for a daytime artisan-market aesthetic, where the bold palette becomes the whole point. It pairs equally well with a block-printed mulmul saree for an informal festive gathering, where its folkloric character reads as intentional and considered rather than casual. The necklace is offered in free size, designed to suit most wearers without adjustment. The lacquered finish protects the wood from everyday handling, and the standard closure keeps the long drop secure and easy to fasten without assistance.
