Description

A confluence of the high desert and the sea, rendered in silver. Three of the most ancient stones in the subcontinent's jewellery vocabulary, turquoise, lapis lazuli and coral, come together here in a piece that recalls the trading routes once linking Rajasthan's gem markets to the Himalayan foothills. The setting is sterling silver, worked into a multi-stone necklace whose beaded and cabochon forms sit in open bezels, each stone chosen for its depth of colour: the chalky blue-green of Persian-style turquoise, the midnight indigo of lapis dusted with its characteristic gold fleck, the warm terracotta of coral. This aesthetic belongs to a lineage of tribal and folk silver traditions practised across Rajasthan, Kutch and the hill communities of the north, where silver was always preferred over gold and stones were selected for spiritual resonance as much as beauty. The piece weighs 29.56 grams and measures just under 25 centimetres (9.8 inches), a length that sits comfortably at the collarbone. Layer it over an ivory cotton kurta for a Jaipur heritage market afternoon, or wear it as the sole ornament against a silk halter neck at an evening gathering where the three stones hold the light differently at every angle. The sterling silver has been finished to a gentle polish that will not overwhelm the natural matte quality of the stones. The piece is free-sized and requires no clasp adjustment, making it straightforward to put on and comfortable for extended wear.
