Description

There is a particular pleasure in jewellery that does not ask to be understood, only worn. This multi-stone fashion necklace draws on the visual vocabulary of Indian festive adornment without the weight of precious metal behind it. The piece is composed in base metal with a warm, oxidised or gilt finish, set with a constellation of coloured stones arranged in a stacked or clustered silhouette that echoes the layered aesthetics of Rajasthani bazaar jewellery. The stones, set in open-back or prong mounts, catch light in the manner of costume interpretations of Kundan-style work, where colour and geometry do the labour that gold and uncut diamonds perform in finer traditions. At six inches in height (approximately fifteen centimetres) and weighing just under thirty-seven grams, the necklace sits with a substantiality that reads as considered rather than heavy. It is offered as a single free-size piece, finished with a standard fastening at the nape. Pair it with a silk kurta in ivory or saffron for a festive afternoon gathering, where the stones will read against plain fabric with genuine presence. It is equally at home over a simple cotton anarkali for a mehendi or sangeet, adding colour without competing with embroidery. The thirty-seven-gram weight distributes comfortably across the collarbone for extended wear. The metal construction makes it resilient for season after season of occasional use, requiring only a soft cloth to restore its surface between outings.
