Description
There is a quiet drama in stone that has been coaxed into light. Chalcedony, in its many-hued temperament, has been prized across the subcontinent for centuries, appearing in Mughal inlay work and the gem-set traditions of Jaipur's lapidary quarters alike. These twenty-one beads, each averaging seventeen millimetres across, are cut in the faceted briolette form: a teardrop silhouette ground to multiple angled planes so that ambient light fractures across every surface. What distinguishes this strand is the veining, those fine, wandering inclusions that remind you this is not glass or resin but living mineral, pulled from the earth with its own history intact. The palette runs through soft mauves, greys, dusty roses and translucent whites, colours that shift with the hour and the light falling on them. The full strand measures eight and a half inches (approximately twenty-one and a half centimetres) and weighs thirty grams, lending it a satisfying, substantive presence at the throat. Worn as a short choker-length piece over a raw-silk kurta in ivory or stone, it reads as quietly jewelled rather than adorned. Layered against a western shirt-dress in muted linen for a museum visit or a curated dinner, the briolettes catch the light in a way that invites conversation without demanding it. The free-size strand suits most necklines comfortably. The faceted finish requires no special care beyond keeping it away from sharp perfume; the beads' own natural veining means no two strands are precisely alike.
