Description

There is a particular stillness to mint green that Jaipur's Kundan craftsmen have always understood. Set in brass worked to receive the flat-foil Kundan technique, this necklace, earring and mangtika parure draws on the same tradition of gemstone inlay that once adorned Rajput court jewellery. Pale celadon stones are pressed and sealed within polished gold-toned settings, each piece built up by hand through the patient layering of lac, foil and stone that defines true Kundan work. The necklace falls to seventeen inches with an adjustable extender, its front pendant cascading six inches (approximately fifteen centimetres) below the collarbone in a tiered, floral-repeat silhouette. The earrings measure two point eight inches in height by one point three five inches in width (roughly seven by three and a half centimetres), and the mangtika trails six point seven inches (approximately seventeen centimetres) along the centre parting. The complete set weighs one hundred and twenty-five grams. Wear the full parure with a pale ivory Banarasi or a sea-glass tissue silk for a Mehendi or engagement ceremony. Equally, the necklace alone over a mint or dusty-rose chikankari kurta gives a daytime festive confidence without effort. Because the base is brass, the pieces are lighter on the neck than they appear, free-size in form and straightforward to re-fasten. Store each component separately in a soft pouch, away from moisture, to preserve the Kundan settings and the delicacy of the foil work beneath.
