Description
There are rivers older than memory, and in them, the makara has always kept watch. This necklace and earring set is built around the crocodile, or makara, one of the oldest protective motifs in Indian ornamental tradition, rendered here in sterling silver through the exacting art of Meenakari. The technique, long centred in Jaipur's workshops, fills each silver surface with fired enamel colour, its vitreous depths catching light the way still water does. Tanzanite beads, cool and violet-blue, thread through the composition with quiet authority, their natural colour providing just enough contrast to let the enamel breathe. At 142 grams, the set has genuine presence without excess. The necklace runs to 23 inches with an adjustable finish, the front pendant length extending 11.5 inches (roughly 29 cm), while the earrings measure 2.5 inches in height by 0.5 inches in width (approximately 6.3 cm by 1.3 cm). For evening, wear the full set against raw silk in ivory or charcoal, letting the tanzanite anchor the palette. For daytime, the earrings alone pair beautifully with a handloom cotton sari or a structured kurta in muted tones. The adjustable chain accommodates most necklines without alteration. Sterling silver wears cleanly with regular gentle polishing, and the fired enamel, properly stored away from moisture and hard surfaces, holds its colour across years of devoted wear.
