Description

There is a stillness to this piece that speaks before words can. Cast in brass and finished to a warm, antiqued tone, the Meditating Buddha Lapel Pin presents the seated figure in a posture of complete inwardness: lotus-folded legs, hands resting in dhyana mudra, the serene downward gaze of deep contemplation. At 3.1 inches in height and 1.15 inches in width (approximately 7.9 cm by 2.9 cm), the silhouette is considered and unhurried, with enough surface area for the craftsman to render the gentle curves of the robe and the quiet architecture of the face. Brass, long favoured in devotional objects across Bengal and the Deccan, lends itself naturally to this kind of work: it holds fine detail, ages gracefully, and carries a gravity that more precious metals sometimes forfeit. The piece weighs 13 grams, substantial enough to sit securely without pulling at fine fabric, and is fixed with a standard lapel-pin closure at the reverse. Pin it to the left lapel of an ivory or charcoal linen kurta for a quiet statement at a morning puja or a cultural gathering. It reads equally well on a structured blazer worn over a silk churidar for a literary evening or an art-house opening. Free-sized by nature, the pin requires no adjustment. The brass construction is resilient to daily wear, and the antiqued finish ensures that minor patina, should it develop over time, only deepens the devotional character of the piece.
