Description

A crown that does not wait for a throne. The mathapatti is one of Indian jewellery's most ceremonial silhouettes, a forehead ornament that traces its lineage through Rajput courts and bridal traditions as far-reaching as Jaipur and Bikaner in the west and the temple jewellery ateliers of Nagercoil in the south. This piece is worked in brass, a metal long favoured by artisans for its warm, golden depth and its willingness to hold intricate surface detail with fidelity. At seventy-one grams, it carries perceptible weight without burden, the kind that reminds the wearer of its presence in the most graceful way. The ornament follows the classic central-pendant and lateral-chain construction, with motifs characteristic of court jewellery: layered floral medallions, scalloped borders and carefully placed decorative elements that read as unified from a distance yet reward close attention with their complexity. The brass has been finished to a rich antique warmth, evoking heirloom gold without any false claim to metal purity. Worn centred on the forehead and secured with its adjustable free-size chain at the back, this mathapatti completes a full bridal or festive look with conviction. Pair it with a silk Banarasi lehenga for a wedding reception, or with a gathered cotton or tissue silk sari for a Sangeet where you want ornamentation that reads traditional but travels light. Offered in a single free-size fitting that adjusts to suit most head measurements, the brass construction ensures durability across extended wear. Store away from moisture to preserve the antique finish.
