Description

There are devotions that are worn, not merely displayed. Sterling silver, worked to a warm oxidised finish, carries the full weight of temple jewellery tradition in these jhumkas. At the crown, Lord Krishna stands in his characteristic tribhanga pose, a peacock fanning its tail beside him in fine relief, the two motifs drawn from centuries of devotional iconography that once adorned the treasury pieces of South Indian and Rajasthani shrines alike. The jhumka bell below is rendered with careful proportion: at 2.25 inches (approximately 5.7 cm) in height and 1.15 inches (approximately 2.9 cm) in width, and weighing a substantial 45 grams, the form carries genuine presence without excess. Small freshwater pearls dangle from the lower rim, each one a quiet counterpoint to the worked silver above, lending softness to a piece whose spirit is otherwise resolutely sculptural. For festive dressing, pair these with a Kanjeevaram silk in deep peacock blue or forest green, where the silver oxidation will find its richest contrast. At a more intimate puja gathering or a curated ethnic celebration, they sit beautifully against hand-block printed chanderi in ivory or saffron. The free-size hook closure suits most ear piercings comfortably, and the oxidised sterling silver resists tarnish better than gold-plated alternatives when stored correctly, away from moisture. The weight distributes evenly through the jhumka form, making a 45-gram earring far more wearable across a long occasion than its heft might initially suggest.
