Description

A garden caught mid-unfurl, translated into brass and coloured stone. The vine has always been a favourite motif of Indian folk jewellers, its rhythmic, climbing form lending itself naturally to long, swept silhouettes. Here, a series of leaf-and-tendril forms cascade downward in brass, set with marquise-shaped stones whose pointed ends echo the taper of each leaf tip. At just over eleven centimetres tall and roughly three centimetres wide (4.35 inches by 1.2 inches), the earring has real presence without crossing into costume excess. The brass base is worked in the spirit of the affordable tribal and folk jewellery traditions that flourish across Rajasthan and rural Bengal, where silversmiths and brass-workers have long understood that a considered form needs no precious metal to carry authority. Six colour temperaments are offered: a straightforward Blue, Horizon Blue, Parisian Blue, Sea Blue, Pink and Red, so the same silhouette can read either cooling and contemplative or boldly warm. Wear the blue variants with an ivory or ecru handloom cotton kurta for an afternoon that calls for effortless ease; choose the red or pink for a festive silk ensemble where the swinging length will catch the light beautifully through an evening of movement and conversation. The free-size fitting suits most ears, and the length balances naturally against the collarbone. Brass wears well with a little periodic care, keeping the finish bright and the stones vivid for seasons of regular use.
