Description
Leaves have always been the garden's quietest jewellery, and here they are, rendered in brass and Kundan. The necklace draws its language from the Rajasthani Kundan tradition, where a base metal is worked into sculpted leaf forms and each stone is set flush within a bed of refined gold-toned foil, held by pressure rather than prong. Jaipur's setters have long understood that brass, when worked with patience, carries this technique with the same conviction as gold. Polished table-cut stones sit within each leaf, their colour caught and amplified by the foil beneath. Pearl drops suspend from the lower edge, their matte lustre providing a counterpoint to the harder brilliance of the Kundan work. The earrings, measuring approximately 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in height and 1.1 inches (2.8 cm) in width, echo the leaf motif precisely. The mang tika extends 4.7 inches (11.9 cm) in length. The necklace set itself measures 9.6 inches (24.4 cm) in height and fastens on an adjustable dori, the traditional braided silk cord that accommodates most necklines. The complete set weighs 122 grams, a substantial presence that still sits comfortably. For a festive occasion, pair the set with a deep-toned silk kurta or a chanderi saree in ivory, letting the Kundan speak without competition. At a mehendi or engagement, it layers beautifully over a lehenga blouse with a deep neckline. The adjustable dori requires no alterations and suits most adult wearers. The brass base keeps the piece sturdy for repeated seasonal use.
