Description

Leaves that have learned to hold light. Shaped after the eternal leaf, a motif that appears in temple friezes, garden manuscripts and bridal trousseaus across the subcontinent, these earrings are wrought in brass silver alloy and finished in lacquer, the same vivid resin technique that keeps colour alive in the workshops of Jaipur and Bikaner for generations without fading. Nine stones, set in the navratna sequence beloved of astrologers and aesthetes alike, occupy the body of the leaf in closely fitted collet settings, each stone assigned its traditional hue: ruby red, emerald green, blue sapphire, coral, pearl white, yellow topaz, hessonite amber, cat's eye and diamond-like crystal. A single freshwater pearl drop suspends from the base, trembling gently with movement, lending the whole composition a quality closer to jewellery worn in miniature paintings than to anything mass-produced. At two inches in height and one inch in width (approximately five centimetres by two and a half centimetres), and weighing twenty-eight grams for the pair, these earrings carry genuine presence without excessive load. Wear them with a deep teal Banarasi silk for a festival evening, where the navratna palette will pick up every thread in the weave. They suit equally well a crisp ivory kurta set for a daytime puja or a quiet family gathering, grounding the look with colour and intention. The brass silver alloy base is sturdy and resists tarnish under the lacquer seal. The standard drop fitting suits most ear piercings, and free-size means no adjustment is needed.
