Description

There are leaves that fall, and leaves that are caught mid-air, held forever in silver and stone. This pendant and earring set is shaped around a deeply veined leaf silhouette, a motif beloved in the ornamental vocabulary of North Indian jewellery, where botanical forms have long carried the weight of seasonal ceremony. Nine stones, arranged in the navratna tradition, sit within each leaf in a close-set formation that catches light at every angle: ruby, pearl, coral, emerald, blue sapphire, yellow sapphire, hessonite, cat's eye and diamond-substitute, each stone believed to correspond to a planetary force. The pendant, at 2.7 inches (6.9 cm) in height and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in width, carries substance without heaviness; the earrings, at 2.1 inches (5.3 cm) in height and 1 inch (2.5 cm) in width, repeat the same leaf form. Soft pearl drops finish each piece, lending a deliberate femininity. The base metal is a brass silver alloy, finished to a muted antique tone, with the full set weighing 54 grams. Pair this set with an ivory chanderi kurta and a silk dupatta for a festive afternoon gathering, or wear it against the deep burgundy of a Banarasi blouse beneath a wedding-season sari, where the navratna stones read as intention rather than ornament.
