Description
Leaves pressed in gold, set with light. The leaf has always been sacred in Indian adornment, from temple friezes to bridal toranas, and here it arrives in the language of classical Kundan work. Each motif on this necklace and earring set is built on a brass base, its surface inlaid with Kundan-set stones in the manner perfected by Jaipur's goldsmithing ateliers, where foil-backed glass and semi-precious material are pressed into wax-filled cavities and edged with fine gold foils to create that characteristic flat, luminous face. The necklace closes with an adjustable dori rather than a rigid clasp, a practical nod to traditional textile jewellery. The earrings, at approximately five centimetres tall and roughly one and three-quarter centimetres wide, carry the same leaf silhouette in miniature. Total set weight is 113 grams, substantial enough to feel considered, light enough to wear through an evening. For a Banarasi silk saree at a winter wedding, this set reads as quietly ceremonial, anchoring the neckline without competing with a heavy border. Worn with a cotton mul kurta in ivory or turmeric, it brings exactly the right degree of occasion to a mehendi or an afternoon puja gathering. The necklace sits at a 38-centimetre (15 inch) length with an adjustable dori that allows the wearer to raise or lower it against the collarbone or sternum. The brass foundation is finished to resist tarnish with everyday handling, and the free-size earring hooks accommodate most ear piercings with ease.
