Description

There are prayers that have been pressed into silver for centuries, and this coin carries two of the most beloved. Cast in sterling silver and finished to a warm, burnished lustre, the coin presents Lakshmi and Ganesha in high relief, their forms rendered with the devotional precision of temple jewellery. At five centimetres in diameter (two inches) and fifty grams in weight, the disc has real presence: thick enough to catch light cleanly, substantial enough to feel like an heirloom rather than an ornament. The iconography follows the classical South Indian temple tradition, where the goddess of abundance and the remover of obstacles are paired as auspicious companions. Fine engraved borders frame the deities, recalling the votive coins commissioned for festival and ritual across Nagercoil and the temple towns of Tamil Nadu. Sterling silver gives the surface a cool, honest brightness that deepens beautifully with age and handling. Worn on a slender silver chain against a silk Kanjivaram or a cream chanderi kurta, the coin becomes the quiet centrepiece of a festive look. It is equally at home with everyday cotton, lending a sense of intention to something simple. Free-sized in the sense that the coin itself suits all, the piece requires only a chosen chain length to complete it. The sterling silver holds its finish well with occasional gentle polishing, and the fifty-gram weight sits comfortably flat, making this a devotional object one can wear, not merely admire.
