Labradorite Plain Nugget Necklace

There are stones that do not catch the light so much as hold it hostage. Each bead in this strand is cut from natural labradorite, a feldspar mineral whose interior carries what gemologists call adularescence: that slow, swimming shift of blue, green and gold that appears only when the stone is turned against the light. The nuggets here are left deliberately unpolished to a smooth but irregular form, so that no two beads share exactly the same face or the same spectral flash. Sixteen beads make up each strand, averaging fourteen millimetres across, threaded onto a ten-inch length (approximately 25 centimetres) that sits close at the base of the throat. This is not a jeweller's tradition rooted in Kundan or Meenakari but in the older, quieter craft of the lapidary: the art of reading a rough stone, finding its best face and releasing the colour held within. Worn alone over a fine ivory cotton kurta, the strand reads as an intellectual ornament, almost archaeological in feeling. Draped across a silk blouse at a festive gathering, it lets the labradorite's iridescence compete quietly with embroidery without overwhelming it. The free-size strand fastens with a standard clasp and requires no resizing. The nugget form means the piece lies comfortably flat against the collarbone and does not catch on fabric. It is light enough for daily wear, unhurried in its character and entirely indifferent to trends.
