Description

There is a quiet theatre to labradorite: that sudden, interior fire the gemologists call adularescence, caught mid-movement. These earrings are worked in sterling silver, the metal cooled to a satin or burnished finish that lets the stone carry all the drama. Each labradorite cabochon is bezel-set or prong-held at the centre, the silver frame keeping the stone secure while remaining visually lean. The silhouette measures one inch in height (approximately 2.5 cm), a proportion that sits just at the earlobe without pulling, and the pair weighs a considered ten grams across both pieces. Labradorite itself is a feldspar of Nordic and Canadian origin, but silver jewellery of this restrained, architectural character has long found a home among Indian craftspeople who work outside the Kundan and Jadau traditions, preferring oxidised or plain silver to frame semi-precious stones with honesty and economy. The effect is contemporary yet deeply material. Wear these with a handwoven khadi kurta and raw silk trousers for an afternoon that moves from a gallery to a quiet lunch; or let them anchor a cream chanderi sari when the occasion calls for something refined but unfussy, where the flash of the labradorite reads as accidental poetry rather than deliberate ornament. The free-size fitting suits most earlobes comfortably. The sterling silver construction is durable enough for regular wear, resistant to daily handling, and needs only an occasional polish with a soft cloth to restore its quiet lustre.
