Description

There are jhumkas that announce themselves, and then there are those that simply belong. These mini jhumkas draw on the Kundan tradition, a discipline long practised in the ateliers of Jaipur, where stones are set not by prong or bezel but by pressing refined foil against the gem's pavilion to coax light from within. Here, the stones are moissanite, chosen for the particular cold brightness they carry, and they sit in silver that has been worked to receive them with the same care a goldsmith would give to a Polki piece. The dome swells gently before releasing into the characteristic bell drop below, a silhouette that is at once ancient and economical. At 1.2 inches in height and 0.5 inches in width (roughly 3 cm by 1.3 cm), and weighing a modest 16 grams for the pair, these are jhumkas scaled for daily devotion rather than ceremony alone. Wear them with a fine cotton kurta in the afternoon, and the moissanite catches whatever light is available without competing. At a mehendi or a small family gathering, they hold their own against silk and gold without demanding the room's full attention. The silver construction keeps the earrings light against the lobe across long hours of wear. The standard stud-and-push-back closure suits most piercings without fuss. This is a piece meant to be reached for often, not saved for occasion.
