Description

There is a particular stillness to silver that gold cannot replicate, and these jhumkas hold it beautifully. The jhumka silhouette is among the oldest recurring forms in Indian jewellery, and here it is rendered in sterling silver with the discipline of Kundan-style setting. Each stone is a moissanite, laid flat against the metal bed in the manner of traditional Kundan work, where the foil-backed gem is held by fine silver wire pressed around its girdle rather than by prong or claw. The result is a continuous field of light, the stones appearing to float rather than sit. The earrings measure approximately three centimetres in height and just over one centimetre in width, and weigh fifteen grams, a weight that announces itself gently without pulling at the lobe. The finish reads closest to the restrained, cool-toned aesthetic of Rajasthani silver craft, where surface and stone are given equal dignity. Wear them with an ivory or blush silk kurta for a festive lunch, where the cool glitter of moissanite holds its own without demanding attention. They work equally well against the deep tones of a handloom Banarasi saree worn to an evening wedding function. Free-sized for standard ear piercings, these jhumkas are practical enough for regular wear. Sterling silver, handled with a little care, ages with grace, and the Kundan-style setting keeps each stone firmly sealed against daily movement. A reliable piece to reach for often.
