Description
There are earrings that arrive already carrying a story, and these carry Kashmir's. Rendered in brass and finished in the Kundan style, each earring is a vertical composition of considerable presence: six point two inches tall (approximately fifteen point seven centimetres) and one point six inches wide (approximately four centimetres), they fall in a long, layered cascade from a close-set Kundan panel at the crown. Foiled glass stones, set flush in the manner of classic Kundan work, anchor the upper register with their cold, still gleam. Below, the silhouette opens into a drop sequence weighted by ivory pearls and a row of small ghungroo bells, their gentle percussion a deliberate echo of Kashmiri ceremonial jewellery. The brass base, worked to carry this level of embellishment without distortion, accounts for the earrings' considered weight of one hundred grams, a heft that feels intentional rather than excessive. Wear them with a heavy silk phiran or a deeply embroidered Kashmiri shawl for a winter gathering or a mehendi evening where the occasion demands jewellery with something to say. They are equally arresting against a plain ivory or midnight-blue kurta, where the length and the ghungroo movement become the entire statement. The free-size hook closure suits most ears without adjustment. The Kundan panel is robust enough for extended wear, and the ghungroo drops are individually attached, ensuring that the earrings move gracefully rather than snagging. A soft cloth pouch will preserve the foiled stone finish between wearings.
