Description

There are mornings when a woman does not reach for jewellery so much as she reaches for a declaration. This three-layered Kundan necklace set belongs to the Rajasthani tradition of Kundan work, where polished glass stones are set into a brass base using a foil-backed technique that mimics the luminous depth of uncut Polki. The necklace extends to nineteen and a half inches (approximately 49.5 cm) with an adjustable closure, and its front drop measures eight and seven-tenths inches (approximately 22 cm), falling in graduated tiers of Kundan-studded panels interspersed with bead drops that catch and diffuse light in the manner of older bazuband and haaram compositions from the Jaipur ateliers. The earrings, four and three-tenths inches tall and one and seven-tenths inches wide (approximately 10.9 cm by 4.3 cm), mirror the necklace's layered rhythm. The maangtika trails seven and a half inches (approximately 19 cm), anchoring the full parure at the crown. The complete set weighs 365 grams, a substantial presence that signals intention. Wear it with a deep-bordered silk Banarasi sari for a wedding reception, where the bead drops will move against the weave with quiet theatre. For a mehendi or sangeet, it pairs beautifully with a raw-silk or tissue lehenga in ivory or jewel tones.
