Description

There is a particular gravity to the groom's ornament, one that must hold its own against silk and sherwani, firelight and ceremony. This Kundan mala and earrings set is made for exactly that moment. Worked in brass and finished to a warm, burnished tone, the set carries the language of Kundan stone-setting that Jaipur's karigars have refined over centuries: flat-cut stones pressed flush into gold-foiled bezels, each one catching light with a still, concentrated brightness rather than a sparkle. The mala measures approximately four and a half centimetres in length, a restrained garland-length rather than a cascading haar, which allows it to sit high and composed against a closed collar. The earrings, measuring roughly four and a half centimetres in height and two and a half centimetres in width, are scaled to frame rather than overwhelm. Together the set weighs one hundred and twenty-two grams, a presence felt on the body without fatigue. For the groom, pair this set over a cream or ivory silk sherwani where the warm brass reads like heirloom gold. It translates equally well to a sangeet or mehendi where a man reaches for colour, worn against a brocade kurta in deep indigo or forest green. The free-size mala adjusts easily at the clasp. Brass holds its finish well when kept away from moisture; a soft cloth is all the care it needs between wearings.
