Description

There are earrings made to be worn once in a lifetime, and remembered forever. Kundan is perhaps the oldest continuous jewellery tradition on the Indian subcontinent, refined across centuries in the ateliers of Jaipur and Bikaner, where lac-filled gold foil frames are pressed tight against uncut or shaped stones to hold them without a single prong. Here, that ancient technique is interpreted in brass, a metal long favoured by craftsmen working in the popular Kundan idiom for its weight, warmth and workability. The result is a long dangler silhouette, nearly ten centimetres in height and just over three and a half centimetres wide, set with deep forest-green Kundan stones arranged in the layered, cascading configuration typical of bridal chandelier forms. The dark green palette draws from the tradition of pairing rich colour with gold-toned settings, an aesthetic rooted in the courts of Rajputana and carried forward by generations of skilled karigars. Wear these at a wedding reception or a sangeet evening, paired with a deep burgundy or ivory silk tissue lehenga, where their sweep and colour will read against embroidered hems. They are equally striking against a heavy Kanjeevaram in jewel tones, worn with a high chignon that lets the full length show. At fifty grams, the earrings carry a perceptible bridal weight without becoming burdensome. The standard hook or stud closure keeps them secure through long ceremonial hours, and the dark green finish is consistent and polished against the brass base.
