Description
Worn close to the throat, this choker carries the full weight of a courtly tradition. Kundan work is among the oldest inlay arts in India, refined over centuries in the ateliers of Jaipur and the princely courts that patronised them. Here, a brass base is worked into a broad choker panel that measures eight inches long and three-and-a-half inches wide (approximately 20 cm by 9 cm), its surface set with foil-backed Kundan stones arranged in repeating floral and geometric motifs typical of the Rajasthani repertoire. Baroque freshwater pearls hang as drops, their soft lustre softening the hard brilliance of the Kundan inlay. The matching earrings, measuring one-and-a-half inches tall by just under an inch wide (approximately 3.6 cm by 2 cm), mirror the central panel's geometry and carry the same pearl drops. The complete set weighs eighty-three grams, substantial enough to feel ceremonial without becoming burdensome across a long evening. For a wedding guest or a sangeet, pair this choker over a silk tissue lehenga in ivory or pale gold; the Kundan and pearl palette holds its own without competing with heavy embroidery. For a contemporary formal occasion, layer it against a structured raw-silk kurta in deep burgundy or forest green. The necklace fastens with an adjustable dori, allowing the fit to be customised at the back, which suits a range of necklines. Brass construction means the piece is robust for regular festive wear, and the foil-set Kundan requires only gentle, dry storage to retain its brilliance.
