Description

There are necklaces you wear, and then there are necklaces that wear the light for you. This Kundan set belongs to the second kind. Kundan, the ancient art of setting uncut or foiled stones within a framework of refined metal, finds expression here in copper alloy, a base long favoured by Rajasthani artisans for its warmth and workability. The foiled Kundan stones are arranged in characteristic close-set clusters, their glassy lustre catching the eye in the manner of Jaipur bazaar pieces made for festive abundance rather than quiet restraint. Threading through the composition are vivid orange beads, their saturated colour recalling the lac-work traditions of Bikaner and the bold chromatic instinct that defines popular North Indian bridal and ceremonial jewellery. The result is a piece of considerable visual presence, weighing a substantive 227.1 grams, with a length of 8.8 inches (approximately 22.4 cm) carried on an adjustable cord that allows a relaxed fit across different necklines. Pair this set with a deep emerald or ivory silk kurta for a wedding reception, where the orange beads animate an otherwise restrained palette. It reads equally well against a cotton bandhani dupatta at a festive daytime gathering, the folk warmth of both traditions complementing each other without effort. The adjustable cord means one size serves all builds comfortably. Copper alloy requires only gentle, dry storage to retain its finish. This is jewellery made to be lived in, not saved for a single occasion.
