Description
There are earrings that announce themselves, and then there are earrings that simply arrive, as if they have always belonged to you. These Kundan jhumkas draw from the great Rajasthani tradition of setting uncut stones flat within a foiled gold-toned base, each gem held in place by the time-honoured Kundan technique where highly refined wax and lac are packed beneath the stone before the surrounding metal is pressed inward to secure it. The brass body is finished to a warm, luminous gold tone that flatters a deep green stone palette, the colour here being a rich, saturated green that brings to mind the emerald-influenced sensibility of Jaipur's stone bazaars. The jhumka bell, generous in its drop at three and a half inches tall (approximately 8.9 cm) and one inch wide (approximately 2.5 cm), sways from a flat Kundan-set stud top and ends in a fringe of pearl drops, their soft lustre softening the geometry of the setting. At sixty grams, the weight is present but considered. Wear these with a tissue silk sari in ivory or champagne, letting the green stones carry all the colour. They are equally well placed at a winter mehendi, paired with a raw-silk anarkali in mustard or rust. The free-size stud closure suits most ears without adjustment. The brass base makes them resilient for extended wear, and the pearl drops have been finished to hang evenly, without twist.
