Description

There is a particular kind of chandelier light that only a jhumka can cast, and this one casts it generously. Rooted in the Kundan tradition that Jaipur's goldsmiths refined over centuries, these earrings are built on a brass base that has been worked into a domed, layered silhouette. The foil-set Kundan technique fills each cell of the setting with flat, polished stones in a deep ruby colour, their facets catching light with the stillness of a lamp in a still room. The jhumka bell below swings freely, its curve punctuated by creamy pearl drops that soften the warmth of the red stones. At roughly six and a half centimetres in height and two and a half centimetres in width, the piece carries real visual weight without excess, and at forty-four grams it sits with a reassuring presence at the ear. Brass, burnished and treated, gives the setting its golden warmth. Wear them with a Banarasi silk sari in ivory or ivory-gold for a winter wedding, where the ruby tones will deepen against candlelight. They are equally at home paired with a raw-silk kurta and cigarette trousers for a festive afternoon occasion where restraint is the statement. Free size, with a standard post and push-back closure suited to most ear piercings, these jhumkas ask for no special care beyond keeping them away from moisture and perfume. The layered brass construction holds its shape and finish well with everyday careful handling.
