Description

There is a particular quality of stillness that Kundan work holds, as if light itself has been set in place and asked not to move. These earrings belong to a tradition refined over centuries in the ateliers of Jaipur, where goldsmiths learned to press uncut stones into a bed of lac and fold fine foil over each edge until the setting became indistinguishable from the jewel itself. Here, that same discipline is interpreted in polished brass, a metal long respected in Indian craft for its warmth and its willingness to hold intricate work without distortion. The Kundan panels sit at the centre of the drop, their stones catching light with the quiet opacity that only this technique produces. At roughly five centimetres tall and just under two centimetres wide, the earrings carry presence without bulk, the vertical drop elongating the neck with an economy of proportion that more ornate pieces rarely achieve. The total weight of twenty-six grams settles gently at the lobe. Wear them with a silk kurta in deep rust or ivory for a festive afternoon, or let them anchor a plain cotton handloom sari at an evening gathering where understatement is itself a kind of eloquence. The free-size hook or post closure suits most ear piercings without adjustment. Brass, when kept away from moisture and stored in a soft pouch, retains its lustre through many seasons of wear, making this a practical introduction to Kundan's long and generous tradition.
