Description

Colour is the first language of Rajasthani ornament, and these earrings speak it fluently. Kundan is the art of setting uncut or foiled stones into a gold or gold-worked metal base by pressing pure wax and lac into the bezel, then coaxing each stone flush with the frame until light cannot find the seam. Here, that centuries-old discipline is interpreted in brass, a metal long favoured by Jaipur's karigar workshops for its warm, receptive surface and its ability to hold the intricate cell-work that Kundan demands. Each earring measures five centimetres in height and just over two centimetres in width, the proportions of a classical chandelier silhouette: a flat, shield-like upper panel set with Kundan stones, tapering into a gently swaying lower drop. The colour editions, green and red, correspond to two different stone selections, both set against the bright, polished brass ground that gives Kundan its characteristic inner glow. At twenty-three grams the pair carries quiet, settled weight. A green pair sits beautifully against ivory or ecru silk at a winter wedding or a literary mehfil; the red edition answers a deep burgundy or black chanderi kurta on a festival evening with authority and warmth. Both colourways are offered in a free size, with a standard post or hook closure suited to pierced ears. Brass requires simple care: store away from moisture and polish gently with a dry cloth to preserve the setting and the surface radiance.
