Description

There is a quietness to Kundan that other jewellery forms rarely achieve. These earrings are worked in the Kundan tradition, where individually set uncut stones are pressed into a bed of refined lac and held in place by burnished gold-toned foil rather than prongs or claws. The result is a seamless, almost liquid surface of reflected light. The base here is brass, shaped into the kind of layered floral or geometric drop silhouette that Jaipur's karigar quarters have refined across generations. Each stone sits flush with the framework, the foil beneath it chosen to deepen the colour and amplify the gleam. The outer rim carries the characteristic fine-line beading that marks disciplined Kundan work rather than its cheaper imitations. No gemstone certification is implied; the beauty is entirely in the setting itself. Worn with a silk chanderi kurta and pearl studs set aside, these earrings carry a formal gathering without effort. They sit equally well against the deep border of a Banarasi sari at a winter wedding, the warmth of the brass ground reading as close to gold in candlelight. These are free-size drop earrings with a standard push-back or hook closure suited to most pierced ears. The brass construction keeps the weight measured and wearable across a long evening. The Kundan surface requires no polishing; simply store away from moisture and the finish will hold its warmth across years of wear. Priced at Rs 6,995.
