Description

There is a particular stillness to Kundan work, as though the stone and the setting have always belonged to each other. These earrings are fashioned in brass and finished in the manner of Rajasthani Kundan, a tradition in which flat-cut stones are pressed into a bed of refined lac and held firm by thin ribbons of gold-toned metal foil set flush against the surface. The result is a jewelled face with almost no visible prong, only light and colour meeting the eye in one continuous plane. The silhouette follows a classic layered drop form, each tier stepping down in graduated proportion, the stones arranged to fill every facet of the frame. Brass as a base allows the craftsmen to achieve the depth of the setting without the weight of heavier metals, keeping the piece wearable across a long evening. The palette is as pictured: rich, saturated tones that read as authentically Jaipur in their clarity and warmth. Wear them with a silk tissue kurta in ivory for a winter wedding, letting the earrings carry all the colour. For a contemporary pairing, set them against a structured cotton co-ord in deep rust or bottle green, where the Kundan face acts as its own centrepiece. The earrings are free size, fitting a standard pierced ear. Brass construction keeps the weight light enough for several hours of wear. Store away from moisture to preserve the finish; a soft cloth is all they need between occasions.
