Description

There is a particular stillness to Kundan work, as though the jewel has always existed and the karigar simply uncovered it. These earrings are wrought in brass, a metal long favoured by Rajasthani ateliers for its warm, goldlike depth and its ability to hold the pressure of Kundan setting without yielding. The technique itself belongs to the courts of Jaipur and Bikaner: thin sheets of pure gold foil, in the traditional form replaced here by its brass analogue, are pressed into a lac-filled base to cradle each stone in a seamless embrace, stone flush with metal, no prong, no claw, only the gentle grip of the setting itself. The front face reads as a layered floral medallion, petals radiating outward from a central stone cluster, each unit outlined in a fine Kundan border that catches candlelight with a quiet, undemonstrative gleam. The overall silhouette is that of a traditional chandbali-influenced drop, full enough to make a statement and composed enough to avoid theatrics. Pair them with an ivory or dusty-rose chanderi kurta for a daytime festive gathering, or let them anchor the neckline of a silk saree at a winter wedding. They move equally well between the mehendi and the reception. One size suits all, as the fitting is determined by the standard post or hook closure typical of the style, requiring no adjustment. The brass base keeps the earrings light enough for extended wear, and the Kundan face needs only a soft cloth to restore its lustre between outings. Priced at Rs 6,995.
