Description

The crescent has always known how to hold light. This Kundan chandbali traces the arc of the moon in brass, its curved body set with stones in the flat-bed Kundan manner, where a foil-backed setting traps and throws light from within rather than relying on the stone alone. The chandbali silhouette, a beloved form in the jewellery traditions of Jaipur and the Mughal-inflected courts of Rajasthan, reaches its fullest character here: a wide crescent face that tapers into pendant pearl drops, the pearls softening the geometry with their quiet, organic lustre. The brass base, worked and finished to carry the Kundan cells cleanly, gives the piece a warmth that gold-tone settings often seek but rarely achieve so naturally. At 2.75 inches in height and 1.75 inches in width (approximately 7 cm by 4.4 cm), the earring commands presence without excess, and at 32 grams the pair sits with a settled, deliberate weight. Wear these with a hand-woven Benarasi silk sari for a wedding reception, letting the crescent frame the jaw and throat in their full width. For something less formal, they translate beautifully against a deep-toned kurta in chanderi or georgette, at an evening gathering or festive mehendi. The free-size hook or post closure suits most wearers without adjustment. The brass construction keeps the piece resilient through regular festive use, and the Kundan cells, set without prongs, present no snagging risk against fabric or hair.
