Description

There are silences in silver that only a patient hand can carve. Two owls face each other across the cuff's arc, their forms rendered in delicate inlay work and studded with marcasite, the iron-pyrite stone long favoured in Art Deco silversmithing for its fine, mirror-bright facets that catch light without clamour. The bracelet is cast and finished in sterling silver, its surface carrying that particular cool lustre that only this alloy holds. Inlay work of this character, where motifs are set flush into a recessed field, belongs to a lineage of Indian silvercraft that has flourished across Rajasthan and the Deccan for generations, the karigar working with gravers and setter's wax to embed each marcasite point with exactitude. The owls themselves, wings tucked, beaks almost touching, read as both folk symbol and modernist form; guardians dressed in geometry. Wear this over the sleeve of a fine cotton kurta in ivory or grey for a Sunday lunch where understatement is the real elegance. It is equally at home at the wrist beside a silk blouse and narrow trousers for an evening gathering that rewards the detail-conscious eye. The cuff measures two and a half inches in diameter (approximately 6.4 cm) and weighs a substantial thirty-five grams, giving it a pleasing presence on the wrist without stiffness. The free-size form accommodates most wrists with a gentle press-fit. Sterling silver requires occasional polishing with a soft cloth to preserve its brightness.
