Description

Wrought from iron and brass, this necklace carries the quiet drama of a garden frozen mid-climb. A continuous vine of iron leaves, each one individually shaped and articulated, coils across a ground of imitation turquoise tiles set in brass. The colour is the particular blue-green of old Rajasthani faience, and the multicolour glass stones embedded along the vine add flickers of warmth, like light caught in a herbarium. Iron jewellery of this character sits within a folk tradition that flourishes in rural Rajasthan and parts of Madhya Pradesh, where smiths work the metal cold and hot to produce organic, almost botanical forms. Brass lends the piece its warm oxidised undertone, binding the turquoise ground and the glass accents into a single, coherent surface. At 96 grams, the necklace has genuine physical presence without feeling cumbersome at the throat. Wear it against an ivory or deep teal kurta for an afternoon of craft-market browsing, where its vernacular spirit will read as intentional. It is equally compelling layered over a plain white cotton shirt for a dinner where dressed-down and dressed-up meet without apology. The necklace measures 19.5 inches (approximately 49.5 cm) in length and is offered as a free size, sitting comfortably at the collarbone on most wearers. Iron and brass require only a dry, cool storage space to maintain their finish; a soft cloth buff keeps the oxidised tone rich.
