Description

There is something quietly arresting about a stone that holds the entire dusk sky within a single facet. Iolite, sometimes called the Viking's compass for the way its deep blue-violet hue shifts with the light, is cut here into a classic marquise silhouette, each stone measuring twelve by six millimetres. That elongated, eye-shaped outline is among the oldest forms in the gem-cutter's vocabulary, tapering to twin points that draw the eye and lengthen whatever they adorn. Sold as a matched pair, these loose stones are calibrated for consistency of colour and proportion, making them suited to bespoke setting work by a skilled karigar in Jaipur or Bikaner, where stone-matching for Kundan and Polki jewellery has been a generational discipline. The stone's natural pleochroism, shifting from indigo to a softer grey-violet depending on the angle of light, rewards that tradition of careful craftsmanship. Wear them set as drop earrings with a hand-woven Banarasi silk sari for a formal evening, or commission them as the centrepiece stones in a delicate Meenakari pendant worn over a fine cotton kurta for a festive afternoon gathering. At standard twelve by six millimetres, each marquise sits at a scale that reads beautifully without overpowering. The free-size listing reflects their versatility as unset stones, adaptable to whatever mount a jeweller recommends. Their calibrated cut ensures a clean seat in both open claw and closed Kundan foil settings.
