Description

There is a particular blue that belongs to dusk, to the hour when sky and stone become the same word. Iolite carries that blue honestly. Known in older lapidary tradition as the "water sapphire," it holds a trichroic depth that shifts from violet-indigo to a softer, almost smoky grey depending on the angle of light. These pear-shaped stones, each measuring 6 x 4 mm, are offered in sets of ten, cut to a calibrated teardrop silhouette that sits cleanly in claw, bezel or Kundan foil settings alike. The pear form has long been favoured by Jaipur's gem-setters for pendant drops and graduated necklace stations, where the tapered end catches light differently from the rounded shoulder, giving a single strand quiet movement. At this size, the stones are neither delicate nor assertive; they occupy the precise register where a craftsman's intent remains legible. Iolite's natural saturation means it needs no enhancement to read as richly coloured. A row of these pear drops, set in an antique-finish gold framework, would suit a silk chanderi kurta at a winter mehendi. A single stone mounted in a fine silver bezel pendant translates equally well to a dark crepe blouse at a gallery opening. Each stone in the set of ten measures a consistent 6 x 4 mm, making calibrated matching straightforward for the karigar. The cool blue-violet tone pairs with both warm and cool metal tones, and the pear cut, being closed at both ends, is among the more forgiving profiles to set securely.
