Description

There is a particular blue that belongs only to twilight, and iolite holds it without apology. Each bead in this set of ten is cut to a slender marquise silhouette, measuring three by six millimetres, a proportion that tapers at both ends like a closed eye or a boat hull, giving every strand or cluster an elongated, quietly architectural rhythm. Iolite, sometimes called the Viking's compass stone, earns its place in Indian fine jewellery through a colour that shifts between violet-blue and a deeper indigo depending on the angle of light, a quality gemologists call pleochroism. The marquise cut amplifies this shift: as the beads move, they catch and release tone in a way that a round or oval cut rarely permits. These are loose beads sold in a set of ten, intended for the jeweller or the discerning collector who commissions custom work rather than buying finished pieces off a shelf. Their polish is clean and consistent, suited to stringing in silver or oxidised metal. Laid into a single-strand necklace on a fine silver wire, they pair beautifully with a pale grey chanderi kurta for a gallery opening or an evening of classical music. Set as an accent row within a Meenakari choker, they would balance a deep ruby base with unexpected cool depth. The standard three-by-six millimetre size is consistent across all ten pieces in this lot, making matched stringing straightforward. Their smooth surface requires no special care beyond the ordinary caution one extends to any faceted gemstone bead.
