Description
Woven colour, worn close to the throat. Sambalpuri fabric carries within it one of Odisha's most guarded textile traditions: the ikat technique, in which yarn is resist-dyed before the shuttle ever meets the loom, so that the pattern emerges as if conjured from within the weave itself. This choker and earrings set lifts that tradition into jewellery form, setting panels of haute-red handloom Sambalpuri cloth against a lightweight MDF base that gives each piece its clean, geometric silhouette. The red is not merely decorative; in the Sambalpuri vocabulary, saturated colour carries ceremonial weight, recalling the bandha motifs of temple borders and festival weaves. The necklace sits at one point one inches (approximately two point eight centimetres) in height, the earrings echo it precisely at one point one by one inch (roughly two point eight by two point five centimetres), and the full set weighs just twenty-three grams. Wear it with an ivory or ecru Chanderi kurta and let the red speak without competition; equally, it transforms a plain silk co-ord in ivory or sable into something considered. The choker silhouette works especially well for festive lunches, art openings and curated family occasions where a woman wishes to honour craft without the weight of metal jewellery. Free size, the choker is designed to sit comfortably at the collarbone. The MDF core keeps the set light through long evenings, and the handloom panels require only gentle storage away from moisture to retain their depth of colour.
