Description
There are textiles that hold a whole cosmology in their weave, and Sambalpuri ikat is one of them. Originating from the Sambalpur region of Odisha, this fabric is woven using a resist-dyeing technique called bandha, where threads are tied and dyed before a single shuttle crosses the loom. The resulting motifs, typically shankha (conch), chakra (wheel), and phula (flower), appear with a characteristic soft-edged brilliance that no printed cloth can replicate. In this necklace set, panels of handloom Sambalpuri fabric are mounted onto MDF forms, lending each piece a clean, geometric silhouette with the warmth of hand-woven textile at its heart. The earrings measure approximately four centimetres in height and just over two centimetres in width, while the necklace runs to a comfortable forty-eight centimetres in length. The entire set weighs a gentle seventeen grams, so nothing pulls or strains across a long day. The richness of the ikat patterning makes this set a natural companion to a plain cotton or linen kurta, where the fabric's own geometry can speak without competition. It works equally well layered over a solid-coloured handloom sari for a festive afternoon gathering or a cultural event. Free-sized and light enough to wear from morning through evening, this set requires no special care beyond keeping it away from moisture, which would compromise the MDF base. The set arrives ready to gift or wear.
