Description
There are textiles that carry a loom's entire memory within a single repeat. Sambalpuri fabric, woven in the ikat tradition of Odisha, is recognised by its signature bandha motifs: geometric florals and temple borders that bloom into the cloth before a single thread is cut. Here, those motifs are translated into jewellery, the fabric panels set into MDF forms that give each piece a clean, lightweight structure. The necklace runs to eighteen inches with an adjustable extension, its front pendant dropping a generous nine inches (approximately 22.9 cm), so the layered textile hangs at the sternum like a wearable textile fragment. The earrings, measuring roughly two centimetres in height and just under three centimetres in width, echo the same cloth in miniature. At 27.4 grams for the complete set, everything sits comfortably without weight. Pair this set with a handloom cotton kurta in a contrasting solid, perhaps indigo or ivory, and let the necklace become the focal point. It works equally well over a linen co-ord for a craft-fair afternoon or a cultural event where textile heritage is quietly understood and appreciated. The free-size necklace suits most necklines, from round to V-cut, and the adjustable chain means the pendant length can be positioned precisely. The MDF backing keeps the fabric taut and the silhouette consistent through a full day of wear, with no distortion or fraying at the edges.
