Description
There are crafts that whisper, and Tarakasi is one of them. Rooted in the ancient filigree tradition of Odisha, Tarakasi is the art of drawing fine sterling silver wire to near-impossible thinness, then coiling, bending and soldering each strand by hand until latticed forms emerge from nothing but patience and breath. This set works within that centuries-old grammar: the pendant, rising to almost seven and a half centimetres in height, builds its silhouette through open lacework panels, each curl of wire interlocking with the next in a composition that is structural and airy at once. The earrings, measuring approximately five and three-quarter centimetres in height and just over two centimetres in width, mirror the pendant's vocabulary in miniature. Across the full set, a total weight of ten and a half grams speaks to the lightness that only hand-drawn wire construction can achieve. The finish is the natural luminosity of sterling silver, unadorned and entirely sufficient. Wear the set with a handwoven Sambalpuri cotton sari for a pairing that keeps two Odishan traditions in quiet conversation. For the diaspora wardrobe, it translates beautifully over a fine ivory silk kurta at a winter mehendi. Because the wire construction distributes weight evenly, the pendant sits flat and the earrings carry without strain through a long evening. The hooks are standard fit, and the sterling silver will develop a gentle patina over time, deepening rather than diminishing the craft's character.
