Description

Lace that outlasts centuries, spun from nothing but silver wire and a karigar's patience. Cuttack, on the banks of the Mahanadi, has kept the art of Tarakasi alive for over five hundred years. In this tradition, fine sterling silver wire is drawn, coiled and soldered by hand into intricate latticed forms, each junction pressed and fixed without any backing sheet, so the finished surface breathes like cloth held against the light. These earrings carry that lineage in full. The motif unfolds in layered floral scrollwork, a softly radiating bloom whose petals are themselves composed of tinier spirals, the characteristic grammar of Odisha filigree. No stone, no enamel, no gilding intervenes; the sterling silver is left in its natural oxidised or bright finish to let the openwork structure speak entirely for itself. At 1.85 inches tall (approximately 4.7 cm) by 0.95 inches wide (approximately 2.4 cm) and weighing 12.86 grams across the pair, they carry a noticeable but comfortable presence at the ear. Pair them with an ivory Chanderi kurta and a single strand of freshwater pearls for a refined afternoon occasion, or wear them against a deep jewel-toned silk sari to let the silver catch candlelight at an evening gathering. The earrings are free size by nature of their stud or hook fitting. Sterling silver ensures minimal tarnish with basic care, and the measured weight means these translate effortlessly from desk to dinner without fatigue.
